For Colorado

Colorado

Colorado is the 38th state in the US, and was officially granted statehood status in 1876.  Today, Colorado consists of just over 5 million residents, and the largest metropolitan area of the state is the Denver area, which is also the capital.

Ranked 8th in size land wise, Colorado is a large state that is over 100,000 square miles in size.  Colorado is just slightly smaller than Nevada as well as the state of Arizona, and is comprised of nearly ten times more land than the state of Massachusetts.  The state of Colorado is part of what is known as the Four Corners of the US; this area is where the states of New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah all connect with Colorado at a common point, and is the only place in the country that this type of occurrence exists.

Colorado is known as a state where one can go anytime of the year and is sure to find something to do for excitement or entertainment.  However, it is during the wintertime that Colorado really shines as a destination spot for those seeking outdoor activities.  These types of activities include downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and many, many more activities that allow snow enthusiasts the freedom to have some fun in the snow.  In the summer months, Colorado boasts tons of recreational activities as well.  These activities include river rafting, hiking, canoeing, and mountain climbing.

In all, Colorado is an outdoor paradise for those that seek fun times outdoors, and offers an abundance of recreational activities to do year round.

Investigating Colorado’s Topography

It is no secret that the state of Colorado has the highest elevation of all fifty states. One of the things that often surprise people when they visit Colorado is that the entire state is not mountainous. Since the state is considered one of the Rocky Mountain States, most people think that the topography of state should look like a crumbled piece of paper. This is not the case at all.

Granted there are 54 different mountain peaks within the states boundaries, but all of those mountains are actually pretty tightly clustered. Most of the state, approximately 2/3rds is actually plains. However, even the plains are located well above sea-level.

The amazing variety in Colorado’s topography is one of the reasons that so many sports lovers and outdoor enthusiast are drawn to the state. There are just so many things that can be done outdoors. It is one of the few states where a person can head to the mountains for a morning of downhill and cross country skiing, and then spend the afternoon on the golf course.

In addition to mountains and flat lands, there are also many rivers and forest. Not only do these variations in landscape provide lots of opportunities to do things like hiking, canoeing, camping, and white water rafting, but they also provide ample opportunities to look at wildlife. It is very rare for a person to spend a few hours outside in Colorado and not find at least a half a dozen different opportunities for a great photograph.

The one thing that you will never have to worry about when you are living or traveling through Colorado is being bored. The topography is constantly changing and there will always be something to look at and marvel over.

The Colorado Symphony

Colorado takes a great deal of pride in their symphony. The symphony organizers have gone to a great deal of trouble to make sure that the programs that the symphony plays have something that everyone is going to enjoy. Playing pieces that range from the very modern, to pieces arranged by Mozart and Beethoven, the symphony has done an excellent job of showing that it is very versatile. It is not at all unusual for a person who has never heard a live performance, to be surprised the first time they hear the Colorado symphony perform. The symphony occasional provides musical background for famous vocal groups, including the well-known band, Chicago.

In addition to wanting to make sure that everyone who attends their performances is treated to a style of music that they’ll enjoy, the symphony also tries to make it possible for everyone to enjoy their performances. In an attempt to do this, students can purchase tickets for the very low price of $5. Granted the seats are in the nosebleed section, but the sound is still spectacular, and the tickets make for a very affordable and romantic date.

The Colorado Symphony was first created in 1989. Sadly its days may be limited. The down turn of the economy means that the Symphony is struggling to find the funding it needs in order to continue to put on memorable shows. If things do not change and the symphony is not able to fill its crofters, it will be forced to close. People throughout the state continue to rally around the symphony, doing everything possible to raise the money needed to keep the music playing for years to come.
