Summer Destinations in Colorado

Most people think of Colorado as a winter vacation destination, due to their great ski resorts. But the truth is, there is lots to offer visitors during the summer months as well. It’s not just for skiers -hikers, campers, and fisherman can all find something to do in Colorado in the spring and summer. Here are a few places to check out for great summer activities.

Peaks Trail in Breckenridge is one such place that has year round appeal. The miles of hiking trails can be accessed on skis in the winter, but can also be explored on foot or by mountain bike in the warmer seasons. The tall trees block the wind in winter, but in summer, they offer protection from the blazing sun! For those looking for a less intense hike, the Rainbow Lake area is a great place to start.

Rocky Mountain National Park is another great vacation spot – and it actually gets most of it’s visitors in the warmer months! It is open to vehicles from late May till mid-October, as those are the times when snow isn’t blocking the roads. National Geographic Adventure magazine named it one of America’s 10 best parks, calling it the “loftiest of all national parks,” recognizing it’s attraction for climbers. The park is some 48 miles across, which can be driven in three or four hours at minimum, with plenty of places to hike or take photos.

Colorado is a great destination any time of year, but should definitely be on your list of places to visit in both winter and summer, since it has plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun in all seasons.
